Kopi dapat membantu mengurangi rasa lelah dan meningkatkan tingkat energi (Smith AP, 1993). Itu karena mengandung stimulan yang disebut kafein – zat psikoaktif yang paling umum dikonsumsi di dunia (James, 1997). Setelah Anda minum kopi, kafein diserap ke dalam aliran darah Anda. Dari sana, ia bergerak ke otak Anda (McCall, A. et al, 2002). Di otak, kafein menghambat adenosin neurotransmitter penghambat. Ketika ini terjadi, jumlah neurotransmiter lain seperti norepinefrin dan dopamin meningkat, yang mengarah ke peningkatan penembakan neuron (Fredholm, B. B. ,2009 ;  A Nehlig et al, 1992) ). Banyak studi terkontrol pada manusia menunjukkan bahwa kopi meningkatkan berbagai aspek fungsi otak – termasuk memori, suasana hati, kewaspadaan, tingkat energi, waktu reaksi dan fungsi mental umum (Ruxton, C. H., 2008; Brice1, C. F., & Smith1, A. P. , 2002; , Arnaud, Buchsbaum, M, et al, 1984).
